Gas Phase Reduced Nitrogen Measurements.
Katie Beem has been a member of the Collett group since June 2006. She is currently focused on nitrogen and sulfur deposition in Rocky Mountain National Park, on the measurement of gas phase methylamines emitted from feedlots and the evaluation of the mist chamber for semi-continuous measurements to aid in the quantification of agricultural emissions. Having finished her M.S. at CSU in September 2008, she is staying on to work toward her Ph.D.
As an undergraduate she participated in two atmospheric science related research projects. In the summer of 2005, at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory with the DOE Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships, she compared particulate samplers in the PM10 and PM2.5 range at the Hanford Site in Richland, WA. For her undergraduate research project, during the summer of 2004, she worked with Dr. Derek Straub at Susquehanna University where they examined and modeled the dispersion of a sulfur dioxide plume downwind of the Sunbury Electric coal fired power plant in Selinsgrove, PA.
In her free time Katie enjoys hiking and other outdoor activities, playing softball with fellow atmospheric scientists, and volunteering with young women in science and athletics.
