Gas Phase Reduced Nitrogen Measurements.


Katie Benedict received her B.S. in Earth and Environmental Science from Susquehanna University in 2006 and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Atmospheric Science in 2008 and 2012. Her graduate research focused on measuring and analyzing atmospheric reactive nitrogen as a means of understanding its sources and levels of deposition in Rocky Mountain and Grand Teton National Parks. Specifically, the work focused on quantifying both the inorganic contributions from dry and wet deposition as well as organic nitrogen in precipitation and aerosol. After completing her Ph.D. Katie spent time as a postdoctoral researcher Cort Anastasio's group at UC Davis measuring the quantum yield of nitrite from nitrate photolysis laboratory aqueous and ice samples. Katie returned to the Collett Group in 2014 as a research scientist where she is working on better understanding ammonia in the atmosphere. Right now this involves operating continuous ammonia instruments (Air Sentry and Picarro) and passive sampling of ammonia in northern Colorado. Additionally, we are collaborating with other groups to look at the exchange of ammonia with the surface through dew chemistry measurements and eddy covariance measurements.

In her free time Katie enjoys spending time with her family, playing softball, and hiking.
